Meet The Children

Meet Nakubulwa Benita

Meet sweet, matooke (a starchy variety of banana found commonly in Uganda) and meat loving Nakubulwa Benita. Benita is 6 years old and began attending a primary boarding school this past January thanks to The Bumbaca Family. Benita has always had a knack for learning and is currently at the top of her class. She is the oldest of two children and her father is a teacher employed by the government. Although her father is employed, he is not consistently paid and as a result cannot provide a stable income for his family. Before having the opportunity to go to school, Sister Bernadette would see Benita sitting in the village center playing school with some of the other village children. Benita’s favorite subjects are English and science and she has shared on numerous occasions that she would like to be a doctor when she grows up. With her determination and persistence we are absolutely certain that if she puts her mind to becoming a doctor, then one day she will be. Although Benita has big dreams, she has one simple wish and that is to have a new dress of her own that fits her.
