Meet Namugenyi Stella
Meet smart and sassy Namugenyi Stella. Stella is 8 years old, is in the third grade, and loves rice and meat. Stella is from a poor village not far from the Entebbe International Airport. She is the youngest of four and the only girl in her family. Stella’s mother is a nursery school teacher and her father was laid off from his job working in a bakery. Her family had enough money to pay for her brothers’ education, but unfortunately not enough for Stella. When social worker Sister Bernadette began working with Stella’s family, Stella had only one worn dress and idly walked around the village as her brothers went to school. Stella shared hopes with Sister Bernadette about being able to go to school and seeing how much potential Stella had, Sister Bernadette set out to find her a sponsor. Fast forward three years and Stella is attending a primary boarding school where her favorite subject is science and she has aspirations of becoming a religious sister and a doctor. She is performing well in school and works hard to get good grades. In true Stella fashion, when asked if she could have anything in the world what would it be her response was “a powerful car”. With the continued support and opportunities that Stella has been afforded we are confident that one day we will see her riding in a Land Rover.
